Bush to Beach: How to Combine a Safari and a Beach Holiday
Combining a safari with beach time is by far our most popular trip structure, and for good reason — the two halves complement each other almost perfectly. Days of early starts, dust and game drives give way to a stretch of doing nothing at all on white sand, and the logistics of connecting the two are usually far simpler than travellers expect. See our complete guide to combining safari and beach for the full detail.
How the Two Halves Connect
Most of our bush-to-beach pairings connect by a single short domestic or regional flight — Masai Mara to Diani, Serengeti to Zanzibar, Kruger to Mauritius or Mozambique. This keeps travel time to a minimum and means you rarely lose more than half a day in transit between the two parts of the trip.
How Much Time for Each Half
A common split is four to seven days of safari followed by four to seven days of beach, though this varies by traveller — first-timers often want more safari time, while honeymooners and those prioritising relaxation often flip the balance toward the beach. There's no fixed formula; we build the split around what you tell us matters most.
Popular Pairings
Kenya's Masai Mara with Diani Beach, Tanzania's Serengeti with Zanzibar, and South Africa's Kruger with Mauritius or Mozambique's Bazaruto Archipelago are our three most-booked combinations. See our Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique pages for the detail behind each.
Sequencing: Safari First or Beach First?
Most travellers do the safari first and the beach second, using the beach as a genuine wind-down after the early mornings and pace of a safari. Starting with the beach works too, particularly for travellers who want to ease into the trip before the more demanding safari days.
